The drive toward exascale computing, a renewed emphasis on data-centric processing, energy efficiency concerns, and the limitations of memory and I/O performance are all working to reshape High Performance Computing platforms. Many-core accelerators, flash storage, 3D memory, integrated networking, and optical interconnects are just some of the technologies propelling these future architectures. In concert with those developments, the HPC vendor landscape has been churning in response to broader market forces, and these events are going to drive some interesting changes in the coming year. Here are a few predictions on what we should expect to see in 2015 Executive Summary Apply for Academic Citation...

On behalf of the Council on Competitiveness, it is our pleasure to release Solve, a publication of the High Performance Computing (HPC) Initiative. For more than a decade, the Council has led the nation to understand, promote and strengthen America’s ability to leverage advanced computing for competitive advantage. America must lead in this game-changing technology that pushes the frontiers of science and commerce in virtually every discipline and sector. The Council brings together America’s top HPC leaders from industry, academia, government and the national laboratories. Through expert analysis and results-driven recommendations, through on-the-ground engagement with manufacturers, and through collaboration with an unparalleled network...
This Week in HPC: HPC Gets the Drop on Design Simulation in Collaboration With Dell, Intel, and Altair — September 2014, ,
PODCAST EXCERPT The following is an excerpt from the weekly Intersect360 Research podcast, “This Week in HPC,” available on iTunes, Stitcher, and through our media partnership with insideHPC. The full podcast can be found at http://www.intersect360.com/industry/podcasts.php and is hosted at http://insidehpc.com/2014/09/hpc-getsdrop-design-simulation-collaboration-dell-intel-altair. In this special podcast episode, recorded on September 12, 2014, host analysts Addison Snell and Michael Feldman interview Martin Hilgeman, HPC Consultant with Dell, Stephan Gillich, Director Technical Computing AMEA at Intel, and Eric LeQuiniou, Director of High Performance Computing at Altair, concerning a collaboration between Dell, Intel, and Altair to advance design simulation. Addison Snell: Michael, we’ve got a special episode...
This report is part of our HPC User Site Census series and provides an examination of the primary application software found at a sample of HPC user sites. We surveyed a broad range of users about their current computer system installations, storage systems, networks, middleware, and applications software supporting these computer installations. Our goal in this analysis of applications is to examine the suppliers, products, and primary usage of the application software packages in use at all HPC sites. Using our primary usage categories, we have created two super segments: High Performance Technical Computing (HPTC) applications and High Performance Business Computing (HPBC) applications. We...
