HPC Market in 2020: Notes
First decline in HPC market since 2009 recession, due to COVID-19 pandemic
- Better than the -3.7% loss projected in our pandemic-adjusted forecast in July 2020
- Strength in government (+10.1%) and bio-sciences (+12.1%) in response to pandemic
- Strength in supercomputing segment (+7.6%), including Fugaku among others
- China economy rebounded within the calendar year; Asia-Pacific had solid growth
- Resiliency in HPC storage (+0.3%) relative to servers (-7.0%)
- Extreme high growth in the HPC cloud segment (+78.8%), outperforming the already increased pandemic-adjusted forecast
